Apps that keep their whole world inside the download.

SilverCove builds small Android apps with nothing behind them: no account, no connection, no adverts, nothing to buy. The current one is Villvette, a guide to the beings people once expected to meet in the dark.

THE STUDIO

A reference book does not need a server, and folklore least of all

Reference apps drift online for reasons that have little to do with the reader: a feed to fill, a login to build a list from, a subscription because the text is now a service. A body of stories that has been stable for centuries does not need any of that. It needs to be written down carefully, translated properly, and then left alone on the phone.

Villvette ships with everything in it. Both languages, every entry, the glossary and the guessing game are in the download, so the app works in a cabin with no signal as well as it does anywhere else — which, for this material, feels like the right place to read it.

The stories are presented as folklore: what people told, believed and did about it. The app describes a tradition, it does not make claims about the world.

VILLVETTE

creatures of the northern dark · bitja severne teme

In the old North, the dark between the trees was never empty. Villvette is an atmospheric guide to the beings of Nordic folklore — trolls, the nisse, the draugr, the huldra and the many others that filled the sagas, the farms and the long winter nights. Each gets its own page: who they are, where they dwell, the legends told about them, the beliefs and warnings tied to their name, and how people once protected themselves.

It is more than a bestiary to read. Browse by realm, search for any being, and bookmark the ones that stay with you. Then test what you have read against the guessing game: clues arrive one at a time — where it lurks, what it does, the signs it leaves — and the sooner you name it, the more it counts. A glossary opens up the folk terms and the world these stories came from.

How a name gets cornered

Twenty-four unnamed beings, and no lore given away. Turn the clues on one at a time and watch the field go dark around whatever still fits. Nothing here is named, described or scored — the bench shows the shape of the deduction, not the answer.

still possible: 24

Every clue in the app narrows the field like this. The game gives them one at a time and rewards you for guessing before the last one lands — the fewer you need, the better you know the North.

No names, no entries, no lore, no glossary and nothing to bookmark — this bench cannot tell you who any of these are. Villvette is the part that can: a full page for every being, five realms to wander, a search, and a game that makes you earn the name.
